Blind Parents
Living the life you want often means becoming a parent who happens to be blind. It also might mean becoming an active grandparent, or someone else who cares for children on a regular basis. Although some may question the abilities of blind parents, we know that blind parents are fully capable and have been successfully raising children for generations.
There are certainly aspects of parenting as a blind person which take some thought, and certain alternative techniques blind parents use in order to keep their children safe, healthy, and happy. We hope to share resources that will support and inspire you along this journey.
The National Federation of the Blind strives to build a strong network for blind parents, grandparents, guardians, and care givers. To access the additional resources for blind parents, please click here.

Diabetes Action Network
Blind diabetics and those losing vision can continue to be independent. The blind can and do accurately draw up insulin, monitor blood glucose levels, etc. 'Limitations' are usually self-imposed, and often all that is needed to overcome negative thinking is simply to know where to go for information. Some equipment (i.e. audio output devices) has been adapted for the blind. By using alternative techniques and products, the blind can control their diabetes as efficiently as do their sighted peers. Teach Blind Students
As teachers of blind and low vision students, you work daily to help your students discover the techniques and attitudes that are necessary for long-term independence. You assist students in discovering their own potential at school, at home, and in their communities. The members of the National Federation of the Blind have the life experience of over 50,000 blind and low vision adults, and we want to support you in your efforts. We believe strongly that caring and committed teachers are crucial in preparing blind and low vision students for the opportunities that await them as they develop into confident and productive adults. Our Teach Blind Students initiative is an effort to leverage your knowledge and experience with our own, by developing a professional network of blindness education professionals, preparing the next generation of teachers of blind and low vision students, and providing the quality education necessary for blind and low vision students to live the lives they want.
